If you’re a geek like me, you’re probably counting the days until the second season of “Daredevil” drops on Netflix. With comic book shows obviously being on my mind right now, it felt timely to pay tribute to the top of the line television comic book adaptations. On with the list! Continue reading →

Top 10 Pulp Adventure Films
This week’s top 10 list is dedicated to a subgenre that doesn’t get the attention it so rightly deserves- pulp adventure films. Granted, it’s an old fashioned niche subgenre, but some of my all-time favorite films (and indeed some of the best films of all time) are apart of this category. These films may not be particularly deep when compared to something like “Citizen Kane,” but so what? When it comes to entertaining cinematic spectacles, these films are the cream of the crop. With the Oscars set to air on Sunday, the Super Bowl for movie geeks is obviously on my mind at the moment. However maddening, controversial, and self-serving as the Oscars may be at times, at the end of the day, it is still a celebration of cinema that inspires intelligent conversations and debates about the art of motion pictures.
Now, it’s no secret that the Best Picture winners are sometimes anything but. A lot of winners have faded from the public eye (“Tom Jones” and “A Beautiful Mind” come to mind), some winners are truly baffling (“Crash”??), a few films were robbed of the award (“Pulp Fiction,” “Star Wars,” and “Citizen Kane”), and there are many instances in which the best films didn’t even get nominated for Best Picture (1933’s “King Kong,” “The Dark Knight,” and much more). With all of that said, sometimes the Academy gets it right and that’s what this top 10 list is about. Continue reading →

Instead of doing a specific top 10 list today, I thought I’d put out a list of random things I love that I would like to recommend to others. These are not movie exclusive recommendations as I have included a TV show, podcasts, a comic book series, audio dramas, an album, a card game, comedic commentary tracks, and even a sports league! There’s not much more for me to add here so on with the list! Continue reading →

Hey folks, I won’t be reviewing “SPECTRE,” but I did want to put up a quick plug for the release of the Blu-ray and DVD (and the digital release if you’re into that sort of thing). For me, the release of a Bond film in the theater and on home video is always a major event as it’s one of my favorite film franchises. On top of that, “SPECTRE” just so happened to be one of my personal favorites of 2015 (evidence here: https://dvdcorner.net/2015/12/24/the-best-and-worst-films-of-2015/). Also, I’m not blowing smoke here, but the James Bond Blu-ray releases are some of the very best around. The picture quality and audio tracks never cease to blow me away. As the back of the Blu-rays often exclaim, “Bond is better in high definition.” Ain’t that the truth.

With Super Bowl 50 ads and conversations being everywhere as of late, American football is clearly on the mind of many folks. Being the film buff that I am, I started thinking about football movies and how a top 10 list would be appropriate on the eve of “The Big Game.” So, that’s what I wrote! While I’m sure some readers will be saying what about so and so, keep in mind this is entirely my opinion. Anyway, enough of my yammering, on with the list! Continue reading →

As a lover of cinema, I have a deep appreciation of films that are bad. No, I’m not talking movies that are so bad that they are unwatchable like “A Good Day to Die Hard” or “Glitter.” I’m talking about movies that are so bad that they become something special. A great bad movie is one that delivers things you’ve never seen before in a weird and wonderful way. In some ways, a great bad movie can even be just as fun as a beloved classic and I don’t mean that in an ironic hipster way. Yes, the bad films may be seriously lacking in the acting or filmmaking departments, but they more than make up for it in the unique ways the stories are presented.
Anyway, enough of my babbling. Read on to find out about some great bad movies that you may or may not have seen. Continue reading →

There are many Blu-rays and DVDs in existence, but there are still a large number of films unavailable on one or both formats. In order to perhaps grab the attention of a studio, I thought it would be fun to compile a list of titles that are in dire need of a U.S. release. Here we go! Continue reading →
