The Best And Worst TV Series Of 2017

Godless TP.png Feud.png

2017 was a banner year for television. Sure, there were a few disappointments (I’m looking at you “Fargo” and “Game of Thrones”), but the year saw plenty of returning favorites, beloved shows resurrected from the dead, new gems, and, more importantly, shows comprised of a wide variety of genres. Say what you will about Netflix as a company, but they once again dominated TV with new seasons of great shows and a plethora of new (and resurrected) series. Netflix wasn’t the only game in town, however, as FX, Showtime, and even CBS All Access all had something to offer. Below I have compiled a list of my ten favorite series of 2017 (along with a few notables) as well 10 of the worst shows 2017 had to offer. On with the list! Continue reading

Several of the best TV series sadly took this year off such as “Fargo,” “Master of None,” and “Homeland,” but 2016 turned out to be a surprising year as several great new series appeared from out of nowhere like “Easy,” “The Night Of,” and, of course, “Stranger Things.” On top of that, there were plenty of returning favorites that continue to flourish ala “Star Wars Rebels,” “Black Mirror,” and “The Flash.” Below I have listed my top 10 personal favorite TV and web series of 2016 along with many notables. Also included is a top 5 worst TV series of 2016 list (Thankfully, I managed to avoid most of the worst series). On with the list! Continue reading

The Best And Worst Films And TV/Web Shows Of 2014

2014 may have been a rather gloomy year in the world, but from a film and television perspective, there was much to admire.

As most people know, film studios traditionally save their best films for the end of the year, but 2014 was a strangely top heavy year. The box office may have been down in the summer, but most of my personal favorites came from that season (which is a real rarity to say the least). Likewise, a majority of the best new and returning TV series came early in the year with the fall primarily being filled with little more than network tripe.

Anyway, enough of my yammering, on with the list!   Continue reading

The Best And Worst Films And TV Shows Of 2012

While some film fans and film critics adored 2012, I felt the year was largely comprised of bloated blockbusters and underwhelming art films. To me, a majority of the films (while often well made) felt distant and never really connected with me personally. Last year, I was overwhelmed with profoundly moving films such as “Moneyball,” “50/50,” “Hugo,” and “Midnight in Paris.” Now, that’s not to say 2012 didn’t have its highlights because it did. No one can deny that 2012’s cinematic offerings weren’t varied as the cinemas (and VODs) were flooded with everything from a talking teddy bear and a Bengal tiger to an extraordinary rescue mission and video game makers.

Meanwhile, on the television front, serialized entertainment once again reigned supreme. Whether I was witnessing the further decline of Walter White on “Breaking Bad” or seeing the astonishing wildfire sequence in “Game Of Thrones,” it’s clear that television is as exciting as it has ever been.

So, without further adieu, here is my annual list! Continue reading
