With “Captain America: Brave New World” now in theaters, it’s time for an updated ranking of the MCU films. It’s been 5 years since the last ranking so it felt like a good time for a revision. Some films have moved spots and there were some tough choices to be made in the middle of the list. It is quite likely my choices won’t align with others, but that’s what makes these lists fun.
Before “Black Widow” is released and the new MCU era begins, I thought I’d look back at the first 23 films of the MCU. “Spider-Man: Far From Home” makes its debut on this list and I have done a fair amount of re-ordering here as some titles have gone up or down on the list. On with the list!Continue reading →
Now that “Avengers: Endgame” is breaking records left and right and dominating watercooler conversations, it felt like the right time to update my personal ranking of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films (or MCU for short). There are three new additions to the list since I last updated and there’s a bit of shuffling in terms of order of other titles. Anyway, enough of my yammering. On with the list!Continue reading →
With “Avengers: Infinity War” now out in theaters, it felt like the proper time to update and reassess my personal ranking of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films (or MCU for short). Compared to my last list, there’s quite a bit of change here as some films have gone up or down while newer entries debuted high on the list. Anyway, enough of my yammering. On with the list!Continue reading →
2017 was a strange year for cinema. There were great movies, there were good movies, there were overpraised movies, there were underrated movies, and, yes, there were plenty of bad movies. I suppose that is no different from any other year, but this year felt particularly split all over the place. That’s not to say it was a weak year for cinema because it wasn’t. There was much to admire about both blockbusters and art house fare. I think my personal top 10 reflects the odd year that 2017 was with a mix of comic book stories, an actor centric documentary, a movie about the making of a bad movie, and the story of a humanoid fish creature. Anyway, enough of my yammering, on with the list! Continue reading →
With the summer movie season (May to August) starting up next week with the release of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” it’s time to look ahead to what is on the horizon. Now, I’m not just talking about blockbusters, comic book movies, sequels, and remakes here, but small indie releases as well. While I could have included more films, I have narrowed it down to just 10. On with the list! Continue reading →
With 2016 now at an end, it’s time to look forward to the films of 2017. While there will undoubtedly be plenty of film festival gems, surprise movies, or films not yet scheduled that will take the film world by storm, the 10 films listed below are the ones that I know are coming out (at least for the time being). They also happen to be the films I am most looking forward to at the moment. Of course there are plenty of other anticipated films that just missed the list ala “Logan,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” and so forth. Anyway, enough of my yammering, on with the list!
