The Best Series Of 2022

It’s wild to think about just how much the TV landscape has changed. Just a few years ago cable television was the top dog, but now streaming services offer up the best series. This was especially evident in 2022. Below I have listed my 10 favorite series of the year along with a list of notable favorites.

1. Andor- An engrossing and often intense “Rogue One: A Story Wars Story” prequel series that explores new corners of the Star Wars universe that we haven’t seen before ala Imperial prisoners and the inner workings of the ISB.

2. High School- It’s always a thrill to go into a series knowing absolutely nothing and being blown away by what you are seeing. This Tegan and Sara biopic series did just that. It’s an honest coming-of-age story about family, the 90’s, music, sexuality, love and friendship.

3. 1883- “Yellowstone” is a fine show, but this western prequel spin-off is where it’s at. The often poetic limited series explores the highs and lows of life in the lawless frontier.

4. Better Call Saul- The spin-off stuck the landing and then some. The Breaking Bad universe will be missed.

5. Players- The year’s biggest surprise was this funny and emotional mockumentary about a “League Of Legends” esports team. Not enough people know about this underseen gem.

6. Light And Magic- An absorbing documentary series that works on so many levels as it touches on the career of George Lucas, ILM, the evolution of special effects, and the many effects artists who so rarely get their due.

7. Peacemaker- “The Suicide Squad” spin-off about the titular character was hilarious and ultra-weird. John Cena certainly proves he has what it takes to be an actor now.

8. Raised By Wolves- An original, out there and unpredictable sci-fi series never got the audience it deserved. It’s a real shame we’ll likely never see a third season.

9. Severance- A deeply involving mystery box sci-fi drama that explores the separation of home life and work life in a decidedly unique fashion.

10. The Offer- In terms of sheer entertainment value, this biopic drama about the making of “The Godfather” was a joy to behold. It doesn’t hurt that the series also boasts an incredible ensemble cast with Matthew Goode stealing the show as producer Robert Evans.

Notables: “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” “Archive 81,” “Pam And Tommy,” “Heartstopper,” “Cobra Kai,” “Barry,” “Atlanta,” “Werewolf By Night,” “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” “Our Flag Means Death,” “Doctor Who,” “Star Trek: Prodigy,” “Reacher,” “Primal,” “Star Wars: Tales Of The Jedi,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “The Book Of Boba Fett,” “Inside No. 9,” “Kids In The Hall,” “South Park: The Streaming Wars,” “Beavis And Butt-Head,” The White Lotus,“ “Tulsa King,” “Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities,” “Big Shot,” “Ms. Marvel,” “She-Hulk: Attorney At Law,” “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Battlebots,” “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power,” “George And Tammy,” and all of those splendid making-of Star Wars and Marvel making-of documentaries and specials.
