
With the Barnes & Noble 50% off Criterion Blu-ray and DVD sale in full swing, film buffs across the country are hitting up the store to bulk up their home video collections with wonderfully produced discs comprised of foreign film classics, indie gems, obscurities, Hollywood classics and overall great films. With the 2017 89th Academy Awards a mere hours away, it felt like the right time to post a new Oscar centric list. With this one, I thought I’d tackle the Top 10 Best Actor Winners given that this year’s Best Actor category looks to be an interesting one between Casey Affleck (“Manchester By The Sea”), Denzel Washington (“Fences”), Andrew Garfield (“Hacksaw Ridge”), Ryan Gosling (“La La Land”) and Viggo Mortensen (“Captain Fantastic”). It must be said that this was a tough list to write. I could have easily put Dustin Hoffman (“Rain Man”), anything by Daniel Day-Lewis, Ben Kinglsey (“Gandhi”), Rex Harrison (“My Fair Lady”), George C. Scott (“Patton”), Yul Brynner (“The King And I”), Alec Guinness (“The Bridge On The River Kwai”) or Ernest Borgnine (“Marty”), but at the end of the day, I went with 10 actors whose iconic performance are a huge part of film history.
