Mutiny 4K UHD Review

“Mutiny” is a generic Jason Statham action vehicle.

Penned by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis, “Mutiny” is a 2026 action film. The story centers around Cole Reed- a bodyguard for a wealthy CEO (Tibu) of a shipping company (KMG). After traveling home from an event, Cole and Tibu are ambushed by a group of men which leads to Tibu being killed in the crossfire. Cole takes out the bad guys, but soon finds himself framed for his murder. Cole gets intel about the identity of one of his attackers and decides to pose as him and board the Artemis cargo ship hoping to learn who is responsible for Tibu’s murder. While on board, Cole discovers much of the crew is involved in human trafficking. Now, Cole hopes to free the victims, take out the bad guys (led by Captain Marko), and learn the secret about who killed Tibu. Along the way, he gets help from the ship’s third mate (Angie) who is fighting for her life as she is not involved with the crew’s heinous business.

Every year for a good long while now Jason Statham has been churning out an action film or two. “Mutiny” marks his second action flick this year behind “Shelter.” While Statham has starred in a lot of forgettable or derivative fare, you have to hand it to the actor for keeping the action film genre alive. It’s no secret that action films aren’t as in demand as they once were in the 80s, but there’s still an international market for them. Statham movies seem to scratch that itch for action fans.

I wish I could say director Jean-François Richet’s “Mutiny” was an action film worth savoring, but it’s not. The director (who last helmed the enjoyable “Plane”) doesn’t have much to work with here as the script is your standard repetitive revenge fare. Much of the runtime is devoted to Cole sneaking around the cargo ship taking out the bad guys. Sure, there’s some quality violent action here with Jason Statham shooting, stabbing, hooking, and spearing bad guys, but it all feels like an overly serious made for video film with a bigger budget.

Going back to Jason Statham, he goes through the motions here with the character, but the actor 100% commits to the action scenes as per usual. They are the best part of the film. It’s a shame “Mutiny” is purely dramatic as Statham is always at his best when he gets to inject a little comedy here and there. The other main star here is Annabelle Wallis as Angie. Her character is paper thin, but Wallis gets to kick a little ass here which is fun to see.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 2.00:1 2160p. How does it look? “Mutiny” gets a top notch 4K transfer.

Audio Track: Dolby Atmos. How does it sound? The Atmos track gets a big thumbs up. The shootout scenes are particularly impactful.

Extras include a Digital copy, Blu-ray copy and a theatrical trailer.
