Top 10 Films Of 2022

2022 brought a refreshing variety of films with original animated features, big budget spectacles, indie dramas, art house films, weird films, and several autobiographical features. Below I have listed my 10 personal favorites of the year along with numerous notables. And here we go!

1. Everything Everywhere All At Once- The best film of the year and it’s not even close. An imaginative, thrilling, and action packed mind trip.

2. Apollo 10 ½- Why aren’t more people talking about this Richard Linklater animated film? It’s a wonderful ode to childhood and childhood imagination.

3. The Batman- The best DC film since “The Dark Knight.” A sprawling crime saga with Batman actually being a Detective for a change.

4. The Banshees Of Inisheren- An engrossing black comedy about loneliness and a broken friendship with a truly great performance by Colin Farrell.

5. Kimi- A real return to form for director Steven Soderbergh. Zoe Kravitz has also never been better.

6. Babylon- An energetic, unexpected, and emotional film about time, change, cinema, the film industry (warts and all), and the transition from silent to sound films.

7. TAR- Come for the long awaited return of director Todd Field and stay for the performance of the year by Cate Blanchett.

8. Armageddon Time- A thoughtful coming-of-age story about disillusionment, race, family, generations, and dreams.

9. The Menu- A deliciously warped satire about art, chefs, and pretentiousness with award worthy performances by Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy.

10. Jackass Forever and Jackass 4.5- After the turbulent last few years, sometimes you just need the wild, stupid and wholly dangerous antics of Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O and Danger Ehren to lift your spirits.

Notables: “The Fabelmans,” “The Innocents,” “The Inspection,” “Funny Pages,” “The Pez Outlaw,” “The Outfit,” “Marcel The Shell With Shoes On,” “She Said,” “The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent,” “Belle,” “Beavis And Butt-Head Do The Universe,” “Mad God,” “Hollywood Stargirl,” “Dual,” “The Bob’s Burgers Movie,” “Rise of TMNT: The Movie,” “The Black Phone,” “RRR,” “Watcher,” “Emily The Criminal,” “Top Gun: Maverick,” “Pearl,” “Hustle,” “Fall,” “Sr.,” “Official Competition,” and “A Christmas Story Christmas.”
