10 Most Anticipated San Diego Comic-Con 2022 Panels

2022’s San Diego Comic-Con marks the first main show since 2019. While the Con doesn’t quite have the same impact it once did with rising competition from NYCC, D23, Star Wars Celebration, among others, it’s still a huge event for popular culture. I am not personally attending the convention this year, but there will be no shortage of news coming out of it. Below I have singled out 10 panels (okay, I cheated a little) to keep an eye out for.
1. Marvel Studios- Without a doubt this is the biggest panel of the entire convention. It’s unclear what exactly Kevin Feige will be showcasing, but we can all probably expect new trailers (likely for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”) and maybe some new reveals.
2. X-Men ‘97- The other big Marvel panel will focus on the animated series with “What If…” season 2, “Marvel Zombies,” and the hotly anticipated follow up to “X-Men: The Animated Series,” “X-Men ‘97.” I know I’m not alone in hoping to get a glimpse at this one.
3. Dungeons And Dragons: Honor Among Thieves- We all still have collective nightmares over the 2000 movie, but hopefully this new Chris Pine starring big screen effort will yield better results.
4. Gremlins: Secrets Of The Mogwai- One of the more curious animated projects out there is this animated prequel series. The Gremlins franchise has long been dormant so it’s exciting to see it back again.
5. Dave Stevens: Drawn To Perfection- As a huge fan of “The Rocketeer” and the late great artist Dave Stevens, I can’t wait to hear about this documentary film.
6. The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power- There’s a fair amount of skepticism about this forthcoming LOTR Amazon series, but there’s no denying that this big and ambitious series is one of the most anticipated shows of the year.
7. Shazam! Fury Of The Gods- Although many fans are bummed “The Flash” and “Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom” have been bumped to 2023, we are getting the sequel to one of the better DC films. Expect a trailer for this one on Saturday.
8. Gotham Knights- It may not be a video game convention, but there’s most definitely a video game presence at the con. Perhaps the biggest video game centric panel is “A Look Inside The Making Of The Gotham Knights Video Game” (which cannot be released soon enough).
9. Star Trek Universes- With 5 shows currently on the air, Star Trek is back in a big way. This new panel will focus on some of the shows, but I’m hopeful we get teases for Picard’s third and final season and the second season of the fantastic “Star Trek: Strange New World.”
10. Comics!- I couldn’t end this piece without mentioning comics. This is Comic-Con after all. I couldn’t single out just one comic panel as Marvel, DC, IDW, and many other publishers will be there. Plus there’s numerous creator spotlights, panels devoted to franchise comic runs (like Doctor Who), and panels all about hit titles past and present.
