7 Recommended Joel Schumacher Films
In honor of the talented late filmmaker Joel Schumacher, I thought I’d take a look back at his varied career and single out 7 of his movies that everyone should see (or rewatch).
- Falling Down- Michael Douglas stars in a film that has eerily become more relevant with each passing year.
- The Phantom Of The Opera- It may not be on the level of the original Broadway show, but it’s still one of the best movie musicals of the past 20 years. The soundtrack is addicting too!
- Tigerland- A criminally underrated war drama that launched the career of Colin Farrell.
- Phone Booth- Speaking of Colin Farrell, Schumacher reteamed with the actor in this intense thriller that largely takes place in a single titular location.
- Batman Forever- I put this on here because the film was a big deal to me as a kid in the 90s. It just hit all the right buttons for me. While it’s flawed to be sure, I still find the film to be a fun sequel with a killer soundtrack and a deeply overlooked performance by Val Kilmer as Batman/Bruce Wayne.
- St. Elmo’s Fire- A classic coming-of-age Brat Pack movie.
- The Lost Boys- It’s not hard to see why this is one of the most beloved vampire movies. And that cast!
