10 Random Recommendations Part 15

Escape Star

It’s time for another installment! That’s it. That’s the intro.

  1. Wildlife- Paul Dano’s magnificent directorial debut finally gets a home video release courtesy of Criterion.

  1. Selma- Ava DuVernay’s best film has just been released for free to watch on all digital platforms for the entire month of June. See this important and all too relevant film if you have yet to do so.

  1. HBOMax- The latest streaming service has an impressive catalog that includes Criterion titles, DC films, Adult Swim shows, HBO shows (new and old) and much more.

  1. Stargirl- The new DC Universe/CW series is a breath of fresh air thanks to a fun tone, ambitious story arcs, and Luke Wilson!

  1. Gary Clark Jr.- Blak and Blu- As I have mentioned a few times recently, I’ve been on a major music kick lately. This album by the singer-songwriter and master guitar player covers a wealth of genres and showcases the art of a true rising star in the music biz.

  1. The Raconteurs: Live At Electric Lady- Last week, a surprise new Raconteurs live album was released on Spotify. An accompanying Documentary film was also released on YouTube. Both are worth checking out if you are a fan of one of the best modern rock bands around.

  1. Escape From L.A.- Is it as good as “Escape From New York”? No, but it’s a fun sequel that is worth a look (or a second look). Note: Shout! Factory just released a quality new Blu-ray edition of the film.

  1. Shirley- This new 2020 film that just debuted on Hulu is a dark and engaging biographical psychological drama about author Shirley Walker. Stay for the incredible performances by Elisabeth Moss and Odessa Young.

  1. Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge- I wasn’t expecting much from this animated film, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Whether you’re a casual or hardcore fan of the video game/multimedia franchise, this film is sure to appeal to you.

  1. One Cut Of The Dead- One of 2019’s best and most underrated films is this clever zombie comedy from Japan. I hope it finds even more of an audience on Blu-ray.
