Triple Threat Blu-ray Review

Triple

“Triple Threat” will appeal to action junkies.

“Triple Threat” (not to be confused with the recently released “Triple Frontier”) begins with a group on an alleged humanitarian mission. However, 2 members of said group (Patu and Long Fei) are double crossed when they learn the group is breaking out a their leader (a terrorist by the name of Collins). Worse still, the group massacres everyone at the site except for one man named Jaka (who lost his wife in this massacre). With Collins and the gang on the loose, they now have their sites on eliminating a Chinese heiress who is using her resources to stop a crime syndicate. Luckily, the heiress soon finds herself protected by Jaka, Patu and Long Fei who are out to stop Collins and co.

If action is what you want from “Triple Threat,” you’ll be happy to know you get that in spades as it’s loaded with blood, explosions, shootouts, martial arts fights and death galore. In fact, that’s about all you get as the script by Joey O’Bryan, Fangjin Song and Paul Staheli brings nothing original to the table. The simple revenge flick feels very much like a throwback to peak era action films mixed with a modern generic action film made for a global audience. The story itself makes little sense as Jaka had many opportunities to take out the group and its members. The rest of the story is just one big chase with some ruses here and there. That’s about it.

The real reason “Triple Threat” has garnered some press is for the cast which is comprised of martial arts all-stars such as Tony Jaa, Michael Jai White, Scott Adkins, Iko Uwais (from “The Raid” films), Celina Jade, Michael Bisping, and Tiger Chen. Admittedly, it is exciting to see so many action stars in one film but it’s a shame the movie around them is so bland. Still, each cast member has their chance to shine with rising star Iko Uwais easily having the most thrilling action set pieces.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 16:9 1080p. How does it look? A crisp hi-def transfer

Audio Track: 5.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? The action is suitably loud.

Extras:
* DVD copy
* Well Go USA trailers
* A teaser and a trailer for “Triple Threat.”
* A 10 minute interview with various cast members.
