Star Wars Adventures Issue 21 Comic Book Review

“Star Wars Adventures” #21 offers up a pair of original trilogy era stories.

In the 21st issue of “Star Wars Adventures,” readers start off with a Cavan Scott scripted tale titled “Swoop Racers.” In this story, Leia sends Luke, Han and Chewie to pay for supplies for the Rebellion. Of course, the simple task is complicated by Han who decides to use some of those credits for a swoop race where he can potentially win more money. Unfortunately for Han, the fellow racers know that Han has a price on his head and are hoping to collect on that..

While I’m always down to see swoop action, this is a very straight forward happy ending story with Han doing something selfish and Luke trying to bail out his friend. No more, no less. The art by Derek charm is a little hit-and-miss. The humanoid characters (namely Luke) aren’t drawn in the best manner, but the swoop racers, the action, and the aliens are on point here.

The second story is titled “Tales From Wild Space: The Heist.” This Shane McCarthy written adventure finds Emil telling his crew members a story about Kabe at the Mos Eisley Cantina who decides to embark on a crazy job for credits for blue milk. It’s a very cartoony and cutesy story with the moral that easy answers can be found for a big problem. The children’s book esque art by Nicoletta Baldari does perfectly compliment the script’s playful and comedic tone.

The comic closes out with a “Dispatches From Wild Space” piece featuring Emil answering letters and a spotlight on Wuher. The standard cover art gallery and IDW comic ads are also included.
