Escape Plan 2: Hades Blu-ray Review
“Escape Plan 2: Hades” is a hellish sequel.
Having escaped the The Tomb in “Escape Plan,” Ray has started a new life and is now in charge of his own security force team. Unfortunately, members of his team are kidnapped and imprisoned in a technologically advanced prison dubbed Hades. Now, Ray has to break into the prison to try and rescue them.
If you’re looking at the cover of this made for home video movie, don’t get too excited by the star power of Sylvester Stallone and Dave Bautista. Both have limited screentime and both barely engage in any action scenes. Most of the movie is about the characters of Shu (Huang Xiaoming) and his rich genius cousin.
As for the movie itself, it’s a prime example of a bad sequel. It looks cheap (those sets!), the quick cut editing is atrocious, the exposition is clumsy, there’s no characterization, it’s predictable from the first 10 minutes, the CGI is horrendous, the action is rushed, the scene transitions (if you want to call them that) are a disaster, and 50 Cent/Curtis Jackson is somehow cast as a computer expert/hacker. Not even the action here is exciting due to the shaky cam cinematography by Brandon Cox and the lackluster direction by Steven C. Miller.
Cast wise, there’s a lot of talent here ala Jaime King, Titus Welliver, Jesse Metcalfe and the aforementioned Sylvester Stallone, Dave Bautista, 50 Cent and Huang Xiaoming, but no one has anything to work with here as the characters are so one-dimensional. Everyone looks as bored as can be and who can blame them?
