With today being Friday The 13th, I thought I would devote a list to one of my all-time favorite franchises. I am, of course, talking about the Friday The 13th series. Now, ordering these films has always been a tough task for me as my ranking is always in flux (aside from the bottom 2). While I’m sure my ranking will change down the line, this is how I’m ranking it today. So, without further adieu, on with the list!

  1. Friday The 13th: The Final Chapter- The cream of the crop. It has everything you could possibly want from a Jason movie and it has Crispin Glover. ‘Nuff said.
  1. Friday The 13th Part 3- Cheesy 3D gimmicks, great death scenes, the introduction of the the hockey mask, memorable characters- what’s not to like?
  1. Friday The 13th Part 2- Who doesn’t love Baghead Jason?
  1. Friday The 13th Part 6: Jason Lives- A flat-out fun Jason film that perfectly balanced horror and humor.
  1. Friday The 13th (1980)- The first installment in the franchise remains a strong entry despite moments of time stretching filler.
  1. Jason X- If you don’t like campy humor in your Jason movies, you’re not going to like this one, but I enjoy the hell out of it.
  1. Friday The 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan- A lot of fans criticize this one, but I’ve always dug it. Do I wish Jason was in Manhattan more? Sure, but that’s a minor quibble.
  1. Friday The 13th Part 7: The New Blood- Kane Hodder’s debut as Jason is amazing, but the movie itself is bonkers (Telekinetic powers? Seriously?).
  1. Friday The 13th: A New Beginning- Initially, I did not care for part 5, but I have grown to admire it as a psychological horror film that fits quite well in between parts 4 and 6.
  1. Freddy Vs. Jason- The dream match-up didn’t quite live up to expectations, but it was still an entertaining Vs. movie nonetheless.
  1. Friday The 13th (2009)- While the remake has its moments, it never really felt like a F13 film (see Jason holding someone captive).
  1. Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday- There’s no denying that the franchise tried something new here, but it doesn’t work. At all.
