Fight Of The Living Dead DVD Review
“Fight of the Living Dead” is poorly executed.
“Fight of the Living Dead” is an 11 episode post-apocalyptic zombie survival competition web series featuring YouTube star contestants Iman Crosson (AKA Alphacat), Jesse and Jeana (AKA Prank Vs. Prank), Joey Graceffa, Justine Ezarik (better known as iJustine), Meghan Camarena (AKA Strawburry17), Olga Kay, Sam Pepper, and Jarrett Sleeper. The staged CONTV series finds two teams of contestants roaming an abandoned women’s prison where they must avoid zombies of varying danger, travel to different rooms, interact on walkie talkies, encounter other humans, and find ingredients of an antidote. Who will perish in the process? Who will make out alive? You’ll have to see for yourself.
While a zombie simulation sounds fun in theory, the construction and execution of this web series leaves much to be desired. “Fight of the Living Dead” makes the fatal error of not having anyone to root for as show barely spends any time introducing the contestants. Over the first 23 minutes, the show briefly introduces the players one at a time leaving viewers with very little information as to who these people are. Yes, there are extra features about them, but had the show spent a good sized amount of time getting to know these contestants it would have benefited the show greatly. Alas, that is not the case and the fact that it is clearly staged does not help matters either.
With all of that said, hardcore zombie aficionados and fans of these YouTube stars might derive some enjoyment out of this series. If you can get past the cheesy story and the needless post-production F/X work, the series at least flies by due it’s short 51 minute runtime.
Video/Audio:
Presentation: Widescreen. How does it look? It looks like a cheaply made series featuring lots of shaky cam.
Audio Track: Dolby Digital. How does it sound? In a word, sufficient.
