Top 10 Podcasts

As a fan of making and reading lists, I thought I’d start a new ongoing list centric piece here on dvdcorner. The first installment will be dedicated to one of the most enjoyable entertainment mediums- podcasts. So, without further adieu…

* Rebel Force Radio and the old The Forcecast- When the “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” movie premiered, I was keen to hear reactions from passionate “Star Wars” fans. This led me to discovering Jason Swank and Jimmy Mac’s first podcast (and the first podcast I ever heard) The Forcecast. Ever since then, I have listened to their thoughtful discussions, analysis, interviews and news coverage of all things “Star Wars” on a mostly weekly basis. Earlier this year, however, Jimmy and Jason departed The Forcecast and formed their own pod titled Rebel Force Radio. Thankfully, nothing much has changed with their new as it is as great (if not better) than it ever was.

* Hollywood Babble-On- Hands down the funniest podcast on the net. Few things make me laugh more than the comedic duo of Ralph Garman and Kevin Smith.

* Tell ‘Em Steve Dave- Bryan Johnson and Walt Flanagan (best known as the stars of AMC’s “Comic Book Men”) and “Impractical Jokers” star Bryan Quinn gather once a week to talk about anything and everything. Between Walt’s games and Bryan’s fascinating life stories to random appearances by fan favorites like Sunday Jeff or Ming Chen, you never know what will happen (or what will be said) in this one of a kind podcast.

* “Doug Loves Movies” is comedian Doug Benson’s fun and breezy podcast that features movie centric games with other comedians and or movie industry veterans. If I had to recommend episodes to start with, seek out anything with Paul F. Tompkins, Nick Kroll, Pete Holmes, Lil’ Wolverine, and T.J. Miller.

* The Nerdist- While the quality of the show often depends on quality guests, the hostful episodes between the man of a thousand shows (Chris Hardwick/The Nerdist) and his co-hosts Jonah Ray and Matt Mira often prove to be the most entertaining episodes. As far as the best guests go, I’d personally recommend checking out the episodes with LeVar Burton, Billy Hardwick, Matt Smith, and Tom Hanks.

* Top of the Table- While you never know when an episode is being recorded or if Sarah Wilson will ever show up again, this laidback soccer podcast/vidcast is one of the true underrated podcast gems. The show is at its best when Powder (Chris Ballard), Drunk Tank Hank (Hank Alexandre), actor/comedian Brian Bentley, and the ever unpredictable L.A. Galaxy fanboy Mark Villa are all on together.

* “Comedy Bang Bang” is Scott Aukerman’s unique comedic podcast in which comedians and actors (often playing wild characters) discuss bizarre topics and play games like “Would You Rather?” Much like “Doug Loves Movies,” the best episodes tend to feature Paul F. Tompkins and Nick Kroll (especially when their Cake Boss and El Chupacabra characters appear).

* Geek Out Loud- I may not always agree with his opinions and views on films, shows, comics and what not, but the jovial and hilarious Steve Glosson is another vastly underrated podcaster.

* Bondcast- Jimmy Mac and Jason Swank’s other podcast is about another great film franchise- the James Bond series. In this podcast, Jimmy, Jason, and Jonathan Wilkins chronologically analyze each film over 2 episodes. Considering they have only just finished tackling “From Russia with Love,” there is obviously a long way to go. You may have to wait a long time in between new episodes, but if you are a James Bond aficionado, the waits are definitely worth it.

* How Did This Get Made?- If you love hearing discussions about BAD movies or guilty pleasure bad movies such as “Wild Wild West” or “The Room,” this podcast hosted by Paul Scheer, June Diana Raphael and Jason Mantzoukas is for you.

  1. Hey there just wanted to give you a brief heads up and let you know a few of the pictures aren’t loading properly. I’m not sure why but
I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different web browsers and both show the same results.

    • I have checked multiple browsers and have asked others to check the site on their end and I have detected no problems. Also, this podcast piece does not include any pictures.
