The 75th Anniversary Blu-ray Box Set Of I Love Lucy- The Complete Series Is Now Available
If you were holding off on the 75th anniversary DVD box set of I Love Lucy- The Complete Series in favor of the Blu-ray box set, I’m happy to report it is now available to purchase. For those wondering, this is (I believe) a new repackaged box set from the 2024 Blu-ray release (which I reviewed here: https://dvdcorner.net/2024/12/01/i-love-lucy-the-complete-series-blu-ray-review/) in honor of the show’s 75th anniversary.
What is there to say about “I Love Lucy” that hasn’t already been said? The 1951 sitcom is a timeless, influential, and consistently funny sitcom about the misadventures of a married couple (Lucy and Ricky) and their neighbor pals/landlords (Ethel and Fred) in New York City. The series ran for 6 seasons and was followed by a 3 season sequel series “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” (which featured hour-long episodes). In an era where TV comedies come and go at a rapid pace, it’s rare to see a show like “I Love Lucy” that has not only stood the test of time, but continued to find new fans. While obviously dated by today’s standards, the series still broached so many timely topics about marriage, relationships, and gender roles. Lucille Ball herself was a true pioneer in the TV field and paved the way for women in a predominantly male dominated era.
What made “I Love Lucy” so special is that it never lost sight of the characters and making the audience laugh. Whether Lucy was meeting celebrities like Harpo Marx or attempting a new line of work, the audience was going on a journey with the core characters. Sure, everything was exaggerated for television, but the show really stood out among its competitors. It was ahead of its time and Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance and William Frawley created truly iconic characters that fans couldn’t get enough of.
The series is presented in 1080p with an English Mono Dolby Digital track for the first two seasons an English Mono DTS track for the remaining six seasons. The list of extra features is endless here with the original “I Love Lucy” pilot, original broadcasts, ads and promos, original openings and closings, flubs, special footage, radio dramas, commentaries, “I Love Lucy: The Movie” and much more.
