Top 5 Walt Disney Animation Studio Films
With D23 in full swing it seems only fitting for this week’s list to be devoted to Disney. In particular, this list is devoted to my personal Top 5 Underrated Walt Disney Animation Studio films.
1. The Emperor’s New Groove- A box office disappointment at the time of its release, this movie has developed a dedicated cult fanbase over the years and for good reason. It’s zany, hilarious, and full of heart. Easily one of the best Disney animated films of the past 26 years.
2. The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh- Everybody knows Winnie The Pooh, but this 1977 feature always seems to be overlooked. This anthology film is one of the very best Disney animated films and arguably the best Pooh adaptation on screen.
3. The Rescuers Down Under- Disney animated sequels tend to be rather lackluster (to say the least), but this Australian adventure is just as good if not better than the original.
4. The Great Mouse Detective- A clever, beautifully animated and thrilling story set in the Sherlock Holmes universe.
5. The Black Cauldron- This 1985 animated feature was known as a box office disaster for Disney, but it never deserved its sour reputation. It’s not perfect by any means, but this fantasy adventure was a bold risk for Disney. It’s a refreshing change of pace from the standard animated feature. The 4K print is a revelation too.
