Ranking The MonsterVerse Films And Shows (2026)

With “Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters” season 2 in full swing, I thought I’d look at the current state of the MonsterVerse with a new ranking. Here we go!
1. Godzilla (2014)- Gareth Edwards managed to create a serious, stunning and artistic blockbuster that really shows how humanity is at the mercy of the King of the Monsters. One of the very best Godzilla movies.
2. Godzilla vs. Kong- For the final battle alone. Easily one of the best vs. films.
3. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire- Honestly, I went back and forth on this one. You could really swap places with 2, 3 and 4 as they’re all fairly equal. What I like most about this one is that it not only fully embraces the weird elements of the MonsterVerse, but it also features more Kaiju action. This installment also includes my favorite King Kong character work with the Kong and Suko storyline.
4. Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters- Characterization has never been a strong suit of Godzilla films, but this series rectifies that. It makes sure to focus on the characters. This series has the potential to move up the ranking.
5. Kong: Skull Island- The character work and plotting of this “Apocalypse Now” esque adventure aren’t the best, but the Kong and Kaiju action is strong.
6. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters- I really wanted to love this movie. You’ve got Michael Dougherty at the helm, King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan, but the script underwhelms. Perhaps it will grow on me more over time, but it felt like a step down from the thoughtful “Godzilla” (2014).
7. Skull Island- A forgettable lone season animated series.
