Ranking The Star Trek TV Series And TV Movie (2026)

It’s the 60th anniversary of Star Trek and I thought I’d pay tribute to the timeless sci-fi franchise by doing a new updated ranking of all of the series and the TV movie.

1. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine- TOS and TNG may be the most influential and popular Trek series, but the scope and depth of DS9’s storytelling is unrivaled.

2. Star Trek: The Next Generation- There’s no question TNG had a bit of a rocky start, but once it started taking off it became one of the very best sci-fi series.

3. Star Trek: The Original Series- You could really put TOS at number 2. This is the show that started it all after all. The only reason I’d knock it down a notch is due to the lackluster third season.

4. Star Trek: Enterprise- Aside from the horrendous series finale that is best left forgotten, this Trek series remains an underrated effort that has stood the test of time. It had the guts to try new things.

5. Star Trek: Prodigy- The best Trek series of the modern era. Don’t be fooled by the fact that it’s an animated Nickelodeon series. This is written by true fans and also serves as a proto Voyager sequel series in many regards.

6. Star Trek: Picard- Season 1 is OK, season 2 is borderline unwatchable, but season 3 is exactly what the doctor ordered. Sure, it’s fan service to the max, but it feels like a new TOS season.

7. Star Trek: Discovery- DISCO is a bit of a strange show. Every season was different and every season the show reinvented itself. For that reason though it was a fascinating watch. It certainly wasn’t always successful, but I do miss the characters.

8. Star Trek: Voyager- A great ensemble cast was often underserved by uneven plotting.

9. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds- After the grand season 1, this show was easily my favorite new Trek series. Alas, with a couple exceptions, seasons 2 and 3 took a big dip in quality. Here’s hoping seasons 4 and 5 go out on a high note.

10. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy- The potential is there. Holly Hunter is phenomenal, Paul Giamatti is clearly having a blast chewing the scenery, and the DS9 connections are rewarding. The problem is the show is just too inconsistent and all over the place. On top of that, I don’t think anyone pictured the inner workings of Starfleet Academy to look like this.

11. Short Treks- This was a genuinely underrated anthology series. It’s a shame we didn’t get more.

12. Star Trek: The Animated Series- Clunky though it may be, it did give Trek fans more adventures with the TOS characters.

13. Star Trek: Lower Decks- A lot of people adore this animated comedy series, but for me the spastic series is more “Rick and Morty” than Trek. There are a lot of memorable easter eggs though.

14. Star Trek: Section 31- The first Trek TV film is also the worst piece of Trek ever put to screen. Michelle Yeoh deserved so much better.
