Ranking The Pixar Films (2025)

With “Elio” now in theaters, it’s time for an updated ranking of the Pixar films.
1. Toy Story 3- A perfect sequel. You’d be hard pressed not to shed tears at the ending.
2. Toy Story- 30 years later and Pixar’s debut feature continues to resonate with audiences of all ages.
3. Wall-E- I wish Pixar took more gambles like this smart and sophisticated sci-fi original.
4. Up- From the incredible opening sequence to the lovable Dug, this is just a gem of a movie.
5. The Incredibles- The greatest superhero film not based on a comic book.
6. Toy Story 2- For Jessie’s montage alone.
7. Monsters, Inc.- Who doesn’t love Mike, Sulley, and Boo?
8. Finding Nemo- A timeless classic.
9. Soul- Pixar’s most mature and thematically complex film.
10. Inside Out- A clever and deeply emotional trip inside the mind of a young girl.
11. Toy Story 4- Some fans write this one off as they felt 3rd was a perfect ending. I was as skeptical as anyone about a fourth installment, but it managed to deliver. I never tire of seeing these characters.
12. Coco- An emotionally satisfying tale about family and music.
13. A Bug’s Life- Sure, it’s basically “Seven Samurai,” but this early Pixar effort is still a charmer.
14. Inside Out 2- A worthy sequel.
15. Ratatouille- A story that gets better with time.
16. Onward- A warm and fuzzy family story that could have used a bit more world building.
17. Cars 3- The most underrated Pixar film. A surprisingly emotional character piece about aging.
18. Elio- The newest entry is sweet, but borrows from far too many other sci-fi films (especially “The Last Starfighter”).
19. Brave- Merida is a great character, but this 2012 feature is so slight.
20. Cars- The first half is clunky, but there’s a lot to like about the second half.
21. Luca- Much like “The Good Dinosaur,” the ending really makes this movie.
22. The Incredibles 2- Not even Jack Jack could save this dull retread.
23. The Good Dinosaur- A generic story, but the moving ending tugs the heart strings.
24. Lightyear- Sox rules, but this spin-off about the movie the toy is based on was a botched experiment.
25. Finding Dory- A goofy, bloated, and unnecessary sequel.
26. Monsters University- Pixar’s “Animal House” lacks the heart of its predecessor.
27. Elemental- There’s nothing remotely subtle about this allegorical story that contains subplots about pipes and permits. Yawn.
28. Turning Red- While its themes are admirable, the characters are downright obnoxious.
29. Cars 2- Still the worst. Sorry, “Cars 2.”
