10 More Great Romantic Movies

8 years ago I made a list of my Top 10 Romantic Movies (link here:  https://dvdcorner.net/2017/02/12/top-10-romantic-movies/). With Valentine’s Day approaching, it felt like an appropriate time to follow up that list with 10 more gems. Not all of these films have happy endings. Some are bittersweet, some have more going on than just romance, and some are just downright weird. Read on to see my picks!

1. Notorious- Alfred Hitchcock’s 1946 spy romance film is among his finest works. Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman are at the top of their game here.

2. Punch-Drunk Love- A strange, sweet and stressful romantic comedy courtesy of one of the best modern filmmakers (Paul Thomas Anderson).

3. Why Worry?- Harold Lloyd’s adventure-filled silent comedy has more going on than just romance, but the romantic plot at the center between Harold and his nurse is nothing short of charming.

4. Amélie- Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s imaginative, quirky, and captivating romance is just as fresh now as it was back in 2001.

5. Say Anything…- For the boombox scene alone.

6. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind- Arguably one of the best films to come out of the 2000s is this trippy exploration of memory and the ups and downs of a relationship.

7. Rushmore- This forbidden romance/coming-of-age film remains Wes Anderson’s best film.

8. The Shape Of Water- There’s a reason Guillermo del Toro’s monster romance won Best Picture at the Oscars. It’s that good.

9. The Purple Rose Of Cairo- One of Woody Allen’s best films is this romantic fantasy in which an unhappily married woman (Cecilia) falls for a film character (Tom) who comes into the real world.

10. Trust- A decidedly unique oddball romance film from indie auteur Hal Hartley.
