10 Best Series Of 2024

It’s been a rather lousy year for TV and streaming series due to the industry strikes of 2023. Luckily, 2025 is looking stacked. With that said, 2024 still had some pleasant surprises, continuations, originals, and franchise turnarounds. Scope out my 10 favorites of the year below.

1. A Gentleman In Moscow- The best show you probably didn’t see this year was this emotional drama about a Count who loses amid political change and is forced to live in a hotel attic. It’s surprising, rewarding and supremely well acted across the board.

2. The Penguin- Set after “The Batman,” this DC series follows the rise of the Penguin’s criminal empire. The storytelling, the world building and especially the acting by Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti are first rate.

3. Doctor Who- Easily the best season since David Tennant’s era. Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson are a perfect duo.

4. Baby Reindeer- A challenging, stress inducing, psychological head trip based on a WILD true story.

5. The Gentlemen- This spin-off of the film of the same name turned out to be another crime drama-comedy winner from Guy Ritchie.

6. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew- This “Goonies” esque series brought back the fun, mystery, and wonder to the Star Wars universe.

7. Fantasmas- Julio Torres has a unique, quirky, and creative storytelling style all his own. That’s something worth celebrating.

8. True Detective: Night Country- The ending may have been a bit underwhelming, but this eerie mystery was still a tour de force.

9. Hard Knocks- There were several seasons this year and each one brought something different to the table with fascinating and enlightening behind-the-scenes looks at teams during free agency/the draft, pre-season, and the regular season.

10. Tulsa King- Taylor Sheridan certainly has many series on TV currently, but this gangster comedy-drama tale starring Sylvester Stallone might be his most enjoyable.

Notables: “Fargo,” “Squid Game,” “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” “Echo,” “Star Wars: The Bad Batch,” “The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin,” “Chucky,” “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Star Wars: Tales Of The Empire,” “Lolla: The Story Of Lollapalooza,” “Inside No. 9,” “King of Collectibles,” “Star Trek: Prodigy,” “Receiver,” “Cobra Kai,” “The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power,” “Creature Commandos,” “Heartstopper,” “Faceoff: Inside The NHL”, “Starting 5,” “Lioness,” and “It’s In The Game.”
