The Adventures Of Batman Blu-ray Review

“The Adventures Of Batman” is a blast from the past.

Originally aired on “The Batman/Superman Hour” and also as “Batman With Robin The Boy Wonder,” “The Adventures Of Batman” is a 34 episode animated series (although technically it’s 17 episodes with 2 episodes per half-hour episode). The 1968 series finds Batman and Robin (voiced by Casey Kasem) facing off against foes such as The Joker, The Penguin, Mr. Freeze, The Riddler, Catwoman, The Scarecrow, Dollman, Simon The Pieman, and Mad Hatter. Plots involve Batgirl, ransoms, crimes, weapons, theft (of jewels, money, and other items), attempts to discover Batman’s identity, actual penguins, Joker running for Mayor, traps for Batman and Robin, and disguises.

1968’s “The Adventures Of Batman” is a Filmation animated series that feels very much like an extension of the Adam West “Batman” series. It’s colorful, it has a sizable rogues’ gallery, it has a narrator, and the plots are shall we say rather simplistic. It’s a fast moving series that offers up disposable slices of nostalgia. Obviously, this is not for Batman fans looking for something more layered and complex. Instead, it’s merely a fun product of its time and that’s perfectly fine. One of the great things about the Batman franchise is seeing the different takes on the character over time. This is a more laid back and colorful iteration of Batman and Robin stopping villainous foes. No more, no less.

In terms of the episodes, none of them are bonafide classics or anything, but there are a few highlights such as “Hizzoner The Joker” (in which Joker runs for Mayor and rigs an election) and “A Mad, Mad Tea Party” which is quite a wacky and visual episode featuring The Mad Hatter naturally.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 1.33:1 1080p. How does it look? For anyone who saw this series in the past, you will be blown away by the vibrant colors of this now remastered series.

Audio Track: 2.0 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? The audio also fares well here with a nice clean 2.0 track.

No extras have been included.
