10 Recommended Scream Factory Blu-rays
For horror fans, it doesn’t get much better than the Shout! Factory offshoot Scream Factory. Not only do they release horror classics, but they also put out underrated gems, forgotten slashers, dark comedies, cult films, international films, and other assorted oddities. Since they have hundreds of releases now, it can be overwhelming to pick out titles so I thought I’d draft up a list of 10 recommended titles. On with the list!
- The Fog- I’m not sure why this deeply atmospheric John Carpenter is still underrated, but it is essential viewing for horror fans.
- Creepshow- Still the best horror anthology film ever made.
- Day Of The Dead- Anyone that knows me knows that I will always praise the work of George A. Romero. The third zombie film he helmed remains his most underrated work.
- Misery- One of the best big screen adaptations of a Stephen king novel.
- Army Of Darkness- Hail to the king, baby! We all know there are far, far too many releases of the Evil Dead films at this point, but if you for some reason don’t own it, this is the one to go with.
- Sleepaway Camp- A slasher unlike any other!
- The Strangers- One of the best horror films of the past 20 years. Period.
- Serial Mom- It may be one of John Waters most accessible films, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less funny and divine!
- Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon- While this clever horror/slasher comedy has become a cult film over the years, it’s never gotten the attention it fully deserves. It should be a franchise at this point! If you haven’t seen it, this Scream Factory release is the way to go.
- Escape From New York- Scream Factory really has you covered in the John Carpenter department. It should go without saying that this is one of his best. You can even pick up the sequel “Escape From L.A.” from Scream Factory now!
