I’ll Take Your Dead Blu-ray Review

“I’ll Take Your Dead” feels like two different films.

In this indie horror film (I suppose it could be labeled a horror-thriller), the story revolves around a father (William) who earns a different sort of living. You see, criminals stop by his farm to drop off dead bodies which William then disposes of. He conducts all of this business around his daughter (Gloria) who is a bit off. One day while getting a drop-off of three bodies, it is discovered that one of them (a woman named Jackie) is not dead. Circumstances get even more complicated when the criminals learn that she is still alive.

Directed by Chad Archibald, “I’ll Take Your Dead” is a tale of two movies. One movie is a grounded father-daughter story about how they are trapped by their current situation and want to start a new life. The plotline involving Jackie being left for dead is also very gritty and down to earth. The other movie here is a supernatural horror story in which dead people seem to be haunting the farm. Truth be told, the supernatural angle feels disconnected from an otherwise real world horror tale. Writer Jayme Laforest’s use of the dead doesn’t really add much to the movie aside from tacked on jump scares and a hokey revenge of the dead plot. “I’ll Take Your Dead” is at its best when it focuses on the characters and the disturbing situations.

Speaking of the characters, there are a trio of quality performances here. Veteran actor Aidan Devine gives a quiet understated performance as William, Jess Salgueiro shines as Jackie, while Ava Preston shows range as the complex Gloria.
