10 Random Recommendations Part 10

Beastars Roma Phish

It’s been awhile since I’ve done one of these and, as such, it felt like it was time for a new installment. Below I am listing 10 things I recommend be it shows, movies, music, and even a soda! Check it out.

  1. I Am Not Okay With This- 3 months into the year and this is far and away my favorite series of 2020 so far. It’s like John Hughes meets “Carrie” with its own style and story.

  1. Phish Live Albums/Shows- I’ve been a Phish fan since the 90s, but I had fallen way behind on live albums and shows because, well, life happened. Lately, however, I have dived back in and I’m glad to have done so. There’s not a lot of bands who are better live than in the studio but Phish is one of those bands. Between their jamming, exclusive songs, and on stage antics, they always put on a show.

  1. Star Trek: Picard- This new Star Trek series is nothing if not “fascinating.” Every episode feels different and, if the last 3 episodes are any indication, the series is getting better and better. Looking forward to seeing what the final 3 episodes of season 1 have in store.

  1. Cherry Vanilla Coca-Cola- I’m a lifelong Coca-Cola fan and I’m glad this flavor is now in stores. Previously only available via the Coke Freestyle Machines, Coke fans can now enjoy the tasty flavor in their own homes.

  1. Beastars Manga- A supremely well written manga that becomes more captivating with each and every volume.

  1. What Did Jack Do?- This David Lynch short (now available on Netflix) has David Lynch interrogating a monkey. Need I say more?

  1. Tex Avery Screwball Classics Volume 1 Blu-ray- If you need a dose of classic cartoons, it doesn’t get much better than this collection of Tex Avery gems.

  1. Star Wars: Battlefront 2- The solo campaign is great fun for this video game, but it’s the online play that has elevated the game. Whether you want to take part in Blast mode or engage in epic battles in Co-Op mode, there’s something for every SW fan here.

  1. Roma Criterion- One of 2018’s most memorable films gets the Criterion treatment. Cinema fans would do well to pick this one up.

  1. Ghost- I’m not one for modern music, but this band is an exception. The best way I can describe them is metal meets Blue Oyster Cult meets devil rock, but even that sells them short. Obviously, they’re not for everyone, but they’re a breath of fresh air in today’s stale music scene.
