Snatchers Blu-ray Review

“Snatchers” is nothing you haven’t seen before.

“Warner Bros. provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own.”

The Story: After having sex with Skyler, Sara finds herself 9 months pregnant overnight. She winds up giving birth to a killer creature that can control people while being perched atop their head. Worse still, she still has another one to give birth. In order to stop these creatures, Sara teams up with her former best friend Hayley (whom she dropped for a cooler crowd) along with other allies.

Billed as a horror comedy, “Snatchers” tries so hard to be both but is neither funny nor scary. The humor (which is mostly comprised of gory gags, toilet humor and sex jokes) lands with a thud and there are no scares to be had at all as the “intense” moments are B-movie level campy, overly telegraphed, and cliched. The story (which somehow took 3 writers to make) itself is derivative of countless other horror tales as is the cautionary sex story at the center.

The only thing “Snatchers” has going for it is practical and creature FX. I was happy to see non CGI creatures wreaking havoc. If only they were doing so in a better movie.

P.S. Rich Fulcher also deserves better
