The Peanut Butter Falcon Blu-ray

“The Peanut Butter Falcon” is easily one of the best films of 2019.

“The Peanut Butter Falcon” revolves around a young man with Down syndrome (Zak) who is staying at a nursing home under the care of Eleanor. The wrestling obsessed Zak runs away and hopes to attend a pro wrestling school run by his favorite wrestler The Salt Walter Redneck. On his journey he encounters a criminal (Tyler) who is on the run from his own set of problems along. Later on, Eleanor (who was sent to bring Zak back) finds the two and eventually all three join forces to try to fulfill Zak’s dream. Of course, their journey is not without peril as Tyler’s past misdeeds catch up with them.

“The Peanut Butter Falcon” is the type of movie that reminds you why you love going to the movies. It’s surprising, rewarding, heartfelt, quirky, hilarious, and filled with great characters. The film (which plays like a cross between “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” and “Napoleon Dynamite”) is at its core about connections, humanity, friendship and dreams, but it’s never once sappy or manipulative. It’s a smart feel good movie thanks to the combined efforts of writers and directors Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz.

As good as the content is, it’s the cast and their chemistry that makes the movie shine bright. Shia LaBeouf is having quite the career renaissance this year and this is among his best work. Dakota Johnson continues to be one of the most intriguing actors around. Not only does she show great versatility, but she never goes for safe roles. Zack Gottsagen (who plays Zak and really does have Down syndrome) steals the show. If it were up to me, I’d give him an Oscar nomination for his work. He’s that good.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 2.39:1 1080p. How does it look? It’s not perfect, but the transfer is still adequate.

Audio Track: 5.1 DTS-HD MA. How does it sound? This 5.1 track does the job.

Extras:
* Digital copy
* “The Peanut Butter Falcon” trailer and other Lionsgate trailers
* Photo gallery
* “Zack’s Story: The Making Of Peanut Butter Falcon”- A featurette about Zack Gottsagen and the movie itself.
