Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans Blu-ray Review

“Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans” is the fun.

After being teased in the highly entertaining “Teen Titans Go! To The Movies,” the “Teen Titans Go! Vs. Teen Titans” DC animated film has arrived. In this adventure the Go versions of Teen Titans (comprised of Robin, Cyborg, Beast Boy, Starfire, and Raven) encounter the serious and taller versions from another Earth after two different Trigons set a trap for Raven (who is struggling with her inner demon) with a plot to conquer the multiverse. Can the two Titans teams set aside their differences and work together to stop the Trigons from carrying out their evil plan?

If you’re a fan of either “Teen Titans” or the more kid friendly “Teen Titans Go!,” chances are high that you will find something here to delight you with this Jeff Midnikow directed film. For the Go! fans, you’ve got plenty of sight gags, DC references, self-referential jabs, and, yes, songs (including the amusing “Worlogog”). For the Titans fans, you get to see the beloved incarnations of these characters again including their interactions with the less mature Go versions which provides a fun compare/contrast element. Sure, this may be more of a Go! Heavy movie that focuses on Raven and Robin the most, but each version of the character gets their moment to shine.

In terms of the script by Marly Halpern-Graser and Jeremy Adams, it’s adequate, but perhaps not the big crossover event some were expecting. Sure, the battles are fun (especially since everyone still maintains their individual animation styles) and the inclusion of other Titans teams is a real treat (no spoilers as to which), but the Trigon plot feels pretty basic. The ridiculous Santa Claus subplot doesn’t exactly do the movie any favors either. Still, the joy of this movie is just seeing the characters interact with one another and in that respect the movie delivers.
