10 Random Recommendations Part 9
10 Random Recommendations is back! Read on for the list.
1. World Cup- The long 4 year wait is over! Between the shocking upsets and the engrossing stories on and off the field, it’s not hard to see why this is the greatest sporting event on Earth.
2. Solo: A Star Wars Story- It’s a real shame this is underperforming at the box office because it’s a good “Star Wars” film filled with great deep cut references, a fantastic cast and great new characters. Unfortunately, the movie was buried by negative press leading up to its release, a Last Jedi blowback, a poor release date slot and bad marketing. If you haven’t seen it yet, you owe it to yourself to see this sci-fi/fantasy spectacle on the big screen.
3. American Ninja Warrior- There may not be much on TV during this summer, but you can always count on the athletic obstacle course show known as American Ninja Warrior. Will anyone be able to conquer the course this year? I don’t know, but I’m eager to find out.
4. Xbox Game Pass- Xbox One owners should take note of the recently release subscription service Xbox Game Pass. For $10 a month (a free trial is available), gamers get what is essentially Netflix for Xbox games. Subscribers can choose from 100 plus games in the catalogue and install them. It’s a real bargain and will undoubtedly be a game changing service for the future. Plus, Microsoft has stated they will release major new titles on there day and date with their release.
5. Pacific Rim: Uprising Blu-ray- As of today, this highly entertaining sequel was released on Blu-ray, DVD and so on. Much like “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” not enough people went to see this in the theater, but I’m hoping it will find more of an audience on home video as I’d love to see the “Pacific Rim” franchise continue.
6. The Goldbergs- I know I’m many years late to the party on this, but I finally started digging into this 80’s centric sitcom and I’m glad I did. Normally, I’m not a fan of sitcoms as they feel phony, but this one never does because it’s inspired by creator Adam Goldberg’s real life. It doesn’t hurt that it’s downright hilarious.
7. James Bonding Podcast- Hosts Matt Gourley and Matt Mira delve into each of the James Bond films (as well as many other topics) in this humorous, sometimes informational, but always entertaining podcast.
8. Luke Cage Season 2- This Friday (June 22), the hotly anticipated season 2 hits Netflix. Will we see the beginnings of Heroes For Hire? Will the Daughters of the Dragon form? I for one can’t wait to see what happens.
9. Solo: A Star Wars Story Soundtrack- Another “Solo” mention? Hear me out! As a big fan of film scores (especially “Star Wars” scores), I was really curious to see what composer John Powell would bring to the table along with John Williams (who created Han Solo’s theme for this film). As it turns out, Powell and Williams creaed one of the most compelling “Star Wars” scores in years. It’s big, it’s full of callbacks, there are great new themes, the list goes on. If you love film music, check this out.
10. Avatar: The Last Airbender- The Complete Series Blu-ray- One of the best animated series of all time gets a snazzy new Blu-ray set. ‘Nuff said.
