Star Wars Adventures Issue 11 Comic Book Review

The eleventh issue of “Star Wars Adventures” features second parts of stories that really didn’t need continuing.

In the eleventh issue of “Star Wars Adventures,” the second parts of “Powered Down” and “Tales From Wild Space: Family Affair” get the spotlight here. In part 2 of “Powered Down,” writer Cavan Scott’s story finds Han, Chewbacca, Zuckuss and 4-Lom under attack by droids. The 4 have to work together to survive briefly before things return to normal once again. Did this need to be a 2 part story? Absolutely not. The plot is paper thin here and could have easily been done in a single part. With that said, it’s still fun to see the underutilized bounty hunter characters of Zuckuss and 4-Lom getting attention here. I’d love to see them in more “Star Wars” media. As for the art by Derek Charm, it’s very cartoony and comic booky, but it works for the story being told here (and for the series).

“Tales From Wild Space: Family Affair” part 2 continues where the first part left off with Lando trying to put Jiandy on the straight and narrow. Alas, the two end up in a heap of trouble, but nothing everything is as it seems with the crafty Lando. Again, this did not need to be a 2 parter as most of this issue is one long chase scene. Still, this Elsa Charretier and Pierrick Colinet story at least has some depth as it dives into themes of learning lessons, listening, and finding a “family.” The art (also by Elsa) has a bit of an old fashioned “Bazooka Joe” esque vibe to it, but the coloring by Sarah Stern doesn’t quite match the artist’s (or the story’s) vibe.

As per usual, the comic closes out with a “Dispatches From Wild Space” page with Emil answering a letter and the character of 4-Lom getting a spotlight, a cover art gallery and IDW comic ads.
