Ghostbusters 101 Issue 2 Comic Book Review

Second verse same as the first.
In issue 2 of “Ghostbusters 101,” Abby, Erin, Jillian, and Patty investigate ghostly activity on a golf course. Meanwhile, in the dimension with the OG Ghostbusters (Egon, Ray, Peter and Winston) the Ghostbusters 101 class has launched with students Garrett, Cait, Kevin, Zoe, and Evan participating in the program. Of course, more dimensional weirdness continues to occur and, well, that’s about it.
For those that were let down by the first issue of “Ghostbusters 101,” I’m afraid issue 2 doesn’t fare any better. Writer Erik Burnham’s story is still not living up to its potential. Not only is it moving at a snail’s pace, but it’s also retreading ideas from the first issue. On top of that, the actual Ghostbusters 101 storyline continues to be a waste of time. This series should be getting to the good stuff like the crossover with the two Ghostbusters teams. That should have happened already.
On the plus side, there are some fun Ghostbusters easter eggs that make the issue worthwhile. Burnham also manages to capture the characters’ voices quite well (although the OG Ghostbusters are disappointingly barely in this issue aside from a televised commercial and a small bit at the end).
As far as artist Dan Schoening’s work goes, it still has a very stylized animated series look to it. It may annoy some, but I think it works well and gives the series its own unique vibe.
