The Levenger Tapes DVD Review

The Levenger Tapes DVD.jpg

Eject.

In “The Levenger Tapes,” a trio of Detectives are investigating a case involving missing college kids. Their primary evidence comes in the form of a series of tapes that they are watching for clues. The movie in turn cuts to the found footage style story of the 3 college kids (Amanda, Kim and Chase) whose getaway trip goes horribly awry after they venture into a nature reserve and former burial ground full of danger. On top of that, the tapes also show a young girl (Katie) who is missing. Will the tapes reveal the truth about both cases and where they can find the missing people?

At one point in “The Levenger Tapes,” the Amanda character says “Do you understand how annoying you’re being?” That pretty much sums up the entirety of the movie. From start to finish, the film is plagued by idiotic character actions, thoroughly obnoxious characters (especially Chase), embarrassing attempts at scares, and lots and lots of filler.

Perhaps the film’s greatest sin is the script itself. Not only are you constantly left wondering why the characters are even filming at all, but you’re also left wondering if the script was made up on the spot. At no point did I care about the tape content or even the ending revelation. I just wanted the credits to roll.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 1.78:1. How does it look? Say what you will about the movie, but it is competently shot. The solid transfer reflects that.

Audio Track: Dolby Digital 5.1. How does it sound? An OK transfer that is not nearly as effective as it could be (although that blame should go to the film’s sound crew).

Extras:
* Lionsgate trailers.
* Digital copy.
