Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell Season 1 DVD Review

Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell Season 1 DVD

“Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell” isn’t as funny as it could be.

In the first season of the live-action Adult Swim sitcom “Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell,” the story revolves around the adventures of a screw-up office worker in Hell named Gary. Throughout the 12 minute 6 episodes, viewers can expect to see stories about Gary’s bright young intern (Claude), a baseball player who sold his soul to the devil, Gary’s ex-girlfriend, a Senator, an author, a summon word problem, a devil musical, and a soul harvest contest.

In typical Adult Swim fashion, “Your Pretty Face Is Going To Hell” is an out there comedy that is filled with humor involving bodily functions, the bumbling main character (Gary), and gross creatures (see the spider and “computer”). Unfortunately, it’s all rather light in the laugh department. While the dark comedy “The Office in Hell” concept might work well on paper, the execution leaves much to be desired. Sometimes, it simply tries too hard to be funny and, in other instances, it feels like you’re watching “Little Nicky” again. The show’s biggest issue, however, is with the annoying character of Gary. Actor Henry Zebrowski just seems like a poor man’s Tyler Labine and it’s a little puzzling as to why he was cast to carry the show.

On the up side, actor Matt Servitto (who plays Satan) makes the show watchable. Not only does he steal every scene he is in, but he also has the most memorable comedic moments.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: Widescreen. How does it look? This visually appealing series shines even in standard definition.

Audio Track: Dolby Digital. How does it sound? The dialogue, music, and sound f/x sounded clear to this reviewer.

In all, there are 10 commentary tracks filled with off the wall discussions, episode discussions, props, behind-the-scenes tidbits, and a whole lot more. * 7 promos.
