Cabin Fever: Patient Zero Blu-ray Review

Cabin Fever- Patient Zero Blu-ray

“Cabin Fever: Patient Zero” isn’t on par with the previous 2 installments.

“Cabin Fever: Patient Zero,” the third installment of the “Cabin Fever” franchise, is a prequel to the original film. Set in the Caribbean, the film begins with a nasty virus breakout at a remote island research facility. The lab is quickly locked down and the patient zero test subject (Mr. Porter) is quarantined. Knowing he will never leave alive, Porter loses his mind and decides to spread the virus. The story then cuts to a bachelor party being thrown for a soon to be married man (Marcus). Accompanied by his brother Josh and his 2 best friends, the group takes a boat trip to the remote island where the outbreak has occurred. As you can imagine, all hell breaks loose as the flesh eating virus begins to spread.

As a big fan of Eli Roth’s original film and even the surprisingly decent Ti West helmed sequel “Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever,” I had hoped “Cabin Fever: Patient Zero” would be a worthwhile prequel story. Alas, this threequel falls short in comparison to its predecessors.

Aside from a comically gruesome cat fight near the film’s climax, ‘Patient Zero’ is a fairly lifeless installment in the “Cabin Fever” franchise. The character drama is a bore, the infected people are oddly portrayed as zombie like (which is a real mistake), and the cliffhanger ending to a part 4 that may never happen feels like a cheat. It’s a real shame the plot didn’t add up to more because there was so much potential with the exotic setting and the prequel story element.

Video/Audio:

Presentation: 2.40:1 1080p. How does it look? This is a fine transfer that boasts some incredible Dominican Republic locals.

Audio Track: 5.1 DTS-HD. How does it sound?  This is an adequate hi-def track.

Extras:
* DVD copy.
* Image and RLJ Entertainment trailers.
