I Know Where I’m Going: Katharine Hepburn, A Personal Biography
This new biography about Katharine Hepburn is just out in paperback and is a good, solid read for fans.
The author, Charlotte Chandler, has done a bunch of Hollywood biographies so you may find a bit of a “cookie cutter” approach to this bio but the author states the main source for this book is a series of tapes that Hepburn made at George Cukor’s guest house, which Hepburn stayed at for many years. In the long narrative, broken up into significant events in the actresses’ life, we learn about her family and upbringing, her brother who died at an early age and that Hepburn then dedicated her life to him, her first acting experiences, her lovers before Spencer Tracey including Howard Hughes, and of course a great deal about their fascinating yet forbidden relationship. Anyone interested in this brilliant actress will find lots of good stories throughout this book and it is a fast read.
For great stories of classic Hollywood, you can’t do better than getting it from someone as outspoken as Katharine Hepburn.
