How I Won The War Special Edition plus Commemorative Photo Album

“How I Won The War” is a brilliant anti-war film from the 60’s.

Leave it to John Lennon and his director of choice, Richard Lester, to debut Lennon in his only non-Beatle film and leave a funny yet powerful message.  Let me make one thing clear though, this film features Lennon but stars Michael Crawford.  Lennon has a supporting roll as one of Crawford’s company.  However, this film will always be remembered as the one that made John Lennon cut his Beatle hair.

The film is a humorous Lester vehicle with lots of British mumbling going on in the dialog.  But that also makes the film so much fun and worth viewing more than once; to catch all the witty phrases that you may miss the first time around.  It is also a product of the 60’s so expect some real strangeness in some scenes.  You will find a few Beatle film veterans in the cast, Victor Spinetti,  Leo McKern, and my favorite, Roy Kinnear,  all have roles along with Lennon.

The film has been remastered for this edition on dvd; why no blu-ray was produced is probably because it is a produced “on demand dvd” to help cut studios costs.  It looks good for a film of its age and the remastering was supervised by Lester.

The photo booklet is a bonus for Lennon fans and is available for this limited edition.

All Lennon fans will want this film in their library.  If you like Lennon or Lester’s films and humor, this a must buy.
