UFC: Best Of 2010 DVD Review

“UFC: Best Of 2010” is filled with thrilling highlights.

“UFC: Best of 2010” is a special that covers the eventful year of the ever-growing MMA league. Full featured fights on this set include: The bloody and intense battle between Sean Sherk Vs. Evan Dunham, the high energy fight between Joe Stevenson Vs. George Sotiropoulos, Matt Hughes Vs. BJ Penn, Carlos Condit Vs. Rory MacDonald, Yoshihiro Akiyama Vs. Chris Leben, the epic rematch between Lyoto Machida Vs. Shogun Rua, the anti-climactic match between Quinton “Rampage” Jackson Vs. Rashad Evans, rising star Jon “Bones” Jones Vs. Brandon Vera, Jon “Bones Jones Vs. Vladimir Matyushenko, Cain Velasquez Vs. Minotauro Nogueira, Brock Lesnar Vs. Shane Carwin, Brock Lesnar Vs. Cain Velasquez, and, of course, Anderson Silva Vs. Chael Sonnen. Additionally, the special covers other events such as the new weight classes, “The Ultimate Fighter” series, the WEC merger, as well as spotlights on the Lightweight, Welterweight, Middlweight, and Light Heavyweight, and Heavyweight classes. Also included are pieces about fighters such as Frankie Edgar, Jim Miller, Melvin Guillard, Jake Shields, Jon Fitch, Chris Lytle, Rick Story, the ultra talented Anthony Pettis, Yushin Okami, Michael Bisping, Ryan Bader, Phil Davis, Brendan Schaub, Matt Mitrione, Georges St-Pierre, Matt Hughes, and Junior Dos Santos.

While each of these fights are noteworthy in their own right, there are 3 that really stick out here. First and foremost, the battle between Anderson Silva Vs. Chael Sonnen was arguably the most buzzworthy fight of last year and rightly so. The fight did not disappoint whatsoever as Silva managed to pull out yet another incredible win. Not to be forgotten, however, are the two fights with Cain Velasquez. Cain’s fight with Minotauro Nogueira was an impressive display of his power punches while his epic battle against Brock Lesnar proved he was the real deal. I can’t wait to see what Velasquez will do in 2011.

While the full fight was not presented in this special, I should note that I was very impressed by the footage of Anthony Pettis. His jump kick move made my jaw drop. The former WEC fighter will be enterting UFC this year, and by all accounts,  he’s going to be making headlines (provided he lives up to the hype).

Summary: This set is a comprehensive look back at UFC in 2010. If you want to know what happened last year, this special breaks down all of the key events. Recommended.

Video/Audio:

The widescreen picture quality looks good, but it should be noted that this special is also on Blu-ray.

The narration, announcers, and crowd sound sharp on the Dolby Digital Stereo track.
