ER: The Complete Fourteenth Season

ER Season 14Season 14 of “ER”, the most awarded medical drama in television history, was not up to par with some of the past season sets.

Veteran of the series cast, Maura Tierney is featured as Abbey, tortured from relationships gone a foul and stress falls off the wagon in this season and many of the stories feature her and her troubles.  Goran Visnjic, the other veteran from past seasons, is gone most of the time, overseas, according to the plots, doing humanitarian work in his home country.  Series newcomer (from Season 13) John Stamos takes up the slack as lead male character.  While I still can’t get over the fact that he was on a sitcom for many years, his performances are good in the drama. Most of the plot lines revolve around the staff and their relationships this season, with only a few good medical stories.  Guest stars include Steve Buscemi, Hal Holbrook, and Stanley Tucci, as the new Chief of Emergency Medicine.  Unfortunately, he is not in that many episodes.  Another highlight of this season is the airing of the 300th episode, which shows that the season wasn’t a total wash.

In all fairness, the cast and writers all knew before the end of the season that the next season (Season 15) would be the last (announced by NBC), and the writers strike also left some of the plot lines up in the air.

Included as extras are the usual ER season deleted scenes from certain episodes, a special feature on the 300th episode and roundtable discussion with cast and crew, and some gag reels.

Collectors of the series will want this season but it pales in comparison to many of the other outstanding seasons of ER.
