A Nanny For Christmas DVD Review

You can do worse than see the predictable “A Nanny For Christmas.”

The plot: A former advertising agency employee (Ally) thinks she is going in for an interview for an advertising job, but instead she winds up being hired to be the uptight boss’s (Samantha) nanny for her two children. To make matters more complicated, Ally also falls for an advertising employee (who works for Samantha) whom she is lying to about being an employee in the company. Can Ally get out of this mess and get a job in the agency or will things explode in her face?

“A Nanny For Christmas” is your basic by the numbers holiday cable TV movie. It’s predictable, has a happy ending, and is pretty much forgotten after you watch it. With that said, it’s still watchable thanks to a solid cast. Emmanuelle Vaugier is particularly charming as the lead character Ally and Dean Cain is memorable in a small role as a hard-ass with a heart of gold. Probably the biggest surprise here is seeing Sarah Thompson. As a fan of her work in the show “Angel,” I was happy to see her pop up here in a supporting role as I think she is an underrated talent.

Summary: While far from a Christmas classic, “A Nanny For Christmas” is better than most of the modern TV Christmas movies you see out there. Worth a rent.

The 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen picture quality is fine. The location shooting in L.A./Beverly Hills is one of the film’s highlights.

The Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track is a little flat but it’s decent enough.

Extras include Anchor Bay trailers, “A Nanny For Christmas” trailer and a talkative commentary by Barry Barnholtz, Jeffrey Schenck, Peter Sullivan, Michael Feifer, Emmanuelle Vaugier and Richard Ruccolo. It’s never boring which is more than I can say for most tracks out there.
