Stop! That! Train! Blu-ray Review

Make it stop.
Written by Christina Friel and Connor Wright, “Stop! That! Train!” is a disaster comedy spoof in the vein of “Airplane!” The story revolves around two train attendants (Tess and Deedee) who pose as attendants for the first American bullet train (Glamazonian) after being fired from their jobs. Unfortunately for them, the crew, and the passengers, the train is heading into a stormaganza. Worse still, the train’s breaks go out. Will the train be able to stop or is everyone on board doomed?
Director Adam Shankman’s “Stop! That! Train!” so dearly wishes it was like “Airplane!,” but there is nary a laugh to be had in this uninspired comedic misfire. It doesn’t even work as a disaster movie as it moves at a glacial pace and features nothing in the way of thrills. It is a real trainwreck (pun intended).
The comedy tries to coast on its cameo filled cast. There’s celebrities (like RuPaul Charles,Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nicole Richie, and Joel Mchale), comedians (Chris Parnell, Paul Scheer, Natasha Leggero, and Rachel Bloom) and Drag Queens (Ginger Minj, Jujubee, and Latrice Royale). Alas, every single cast member is wasted here. The material they have to work with feels like a series of bad sketches involving musical numbers, a mime, a coffin, a scorpion, and a giant nipple. Do yourself a favor and just watch “Airplane!” again.
