NCIS: Tony And Ziva Season 1 DVD Review

“NCIS: Tony And Ziva” is a refreshing change of pace for the NCIS franchise.  

“NCIS: Tony And Ziva” is a spin-off of the flagship “NCIS series. The John McNamara created 10 episode 2025 series ran for a single season on Paramount+. As you can gather from the title, the series revolves around the now former NCIS special agents Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David. The two are living in Paris with their daughter Tali, but aren’t exactly together. Tony is heading a cybersecurity company while Ziva is in charge of a growing language school. Tony and Ziva’s lives are thrown into a chaos when a group uses a new 9.4 program to steal from Interpol (among others). Even worse, they are framing Tony for the theft and are endangering Tali’s life. Not knowing who they can trust and fearing for their daughter’s safety, Tony and Ziva need to uncover the criminal mastermind and get Tali to a safe house. That’s easier said than done. Elsewhere in the story are plots about the 9.4 creator (Boris), Interpol, an undercover agent, a bombing, and Tony and Ziva repairing their strained relationship. 

For those expecting “NCIS: Tony And Ziva” to be another standard procedural in the franchise, it’s not. That’s a good thing. Despite only lasting a single season, this series refreshingly mixes things up by playing more like a serialized spy thriller and a relationship drama buoyed by the electric chemistry between leads Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo. “NCIS” devotees will no doubt be thrilled to see the fan favorite characters back in action and this series does the off and on again couple justice. The bad guy plot may not be revelatory, but the glorious Budapest location shooting mixed with the characterization makes it all worthwhile.

Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo are the obvious stars here and both actors get a chance to further explore the characters (along with their evolving dynamic). It’s also nice to see some notable veteran actors here like James D’Arcy and Sean Pertwee who class up the series.
