Top 6 Underrated Baseball Movies

It’s opening day of the 2026 MLB season and baseball is on my mind (Go A’s). I had previously done a top 10 baseball movies list so this time around I thought I’d do a top 6 underrated baseball films list. Game on!
1. Sugar- An intimate character driven story of the trials and tribulations of a Dominican pitcher venturing to America to play minor league ball.
2. The Battered Bastards Of Baseball- A fascinating documentary that sheds light on a 1970s indie minor league baseball team (the Portland Mavericks) which included player/VP Kurt Rusell and future director Todd Field as a batboy.
3. Eephus- A unique and thoughtful tale about two amateur teams playing one last game on a field before its demolition.
4. Everybody Wants Some!!- Richard Linklater’s college baseball film bears a resemblance to his own “Dazed And Confused” and once again features a number of would be stars including Glen Powell and Wyatt Russell.
5. The League- An insightful and important documentary about Negro League baseball and its stars.
6. It Ain’t Over- A must-see documentary about one of MLB’s most underrated and accomplished stars and characters Yogi Berra.
