5 Most Baffling Best Picture Nominees

The Oscars are nearly here and it looks to be an unpredictable year for a change. Before the big night, however, I thought I’d whip up a new Oscar centric list. I’ve done several in the past, but this time around I thought I’d point out the most baffling Best Picture choices. Most of the time the voters get it right, but there are times when a real head scratcher is nominated.
1. Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close- There’s a reason this is the lowest rated Academy Award Best Picture nominee in history. It’s that bad.
2. Don’t Look Up- A woefully unfunny star studded satire that thinks it’s more clever than it is.
3. F1- Even though it’s technically well made and features a great cast and director, there is nothing remotely remarkable about this movie. It’s not even the best racing movie of the past few years.
4. The Cider House Rules- 1999 was one of the greatest years in cinema ever. How this forgettable adaptation managed to sneak in remains a mystery.
5. San Francisco- Aside from the climactic earthquake sequence (which is a major feat for its time), this is largely an overdone melodrama that was somehow nominated over classics like “Modern Times.”
