10 Thoughts On The 2026 Golden Globes

The Academy Awards is the gold standard of award shows, but the Golden Globes are easily the most laidback and fun. Not only do the Globes tend to nominate outside the norm picks at times, but they celebrate both film and television. Plus, they serve alcohol at the show so everyone’s more relaxed. Having just wrapped watching the 83rd Golden Globes, allow me to share my 10 thoughts.
1. It’s always great to see a surprise win and we got just that when Teyana Taylor got the win over favorite Amy Madigan for the masterpiece that is “One Battle After Another.”
2. Nikki Glaser is known as an edgy comedian, but her hosting duties are a bit too safe. Sure, she can dish out the jokes, but they feel a bit too watered down when she keeps saying how much admires whomever she talks about.
3. Love seeing Rhea Seehorn win for “Pluribus” (my personal favorite series of 2025). She’s a real one.
4. Cut the Golden Globe commentators in the future. It’s dreadful, corny, and distracting.
5. It really is surreal to see Seth Rogen and “The Studio” win when the series did an episode about the Golden Globes.
6. Not sure the Podcast award is a good fit for the Golden Globes. Seeing the Best Original Score Award being cut from the televised ceremony doesn’t help the matter either.
7. It’s hard to believe that Paul Thomas Anderson had never won a Golden Globe until tonight given his storied career. He actually won 2 tonight for writing and directing.
8. Great to see Rose Byrne win for the superb underseen indie “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.” It was far and away one of the best performances of 2025.
9. Are we headed towards a Wagner Moura v Timothée Chalamet Oscar battle?
10. The ceremony tried way too hard to be hip at times with the blaring pop songs, the out of the blue UFC promo, the Polymarket polls, etc. Stop pandering.
