10 Criterion Recommendations Part 2

It’s been about 7 years since my first round of Criterion Collection recommendations (link here: https://dvdcorner.net/2018/07/06/10-criterion-recommendations/) and since then the catalogue has grown to 1200 plus titles. If you’re looking to pick up some discs, it can be overwhelming to decide what to get. As such, I thought I would provide 10 more recommendations.
1. Bruce Lee: His Greatest Hits- Looking for some exciting martial arts action? Look no further than this box set that contains “The Big Boss,” “Fist Of Fury,” “The Way Of The Dragon,” “Game Of Death,” and, of course, “Enter The Dragon.”
2. Speedy- When it comes to silent film comedians Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton tend to get all of the attention, but there’s a third great- Harold Lloyd. I could have easily picked “Safety Last” or “The Freshman,” but this underrated gem deserves more recognition.
3. The Gunfighter- One of the all-time great western films starring Gregory Peck.
4. Pink Flamingos- John Waters’ trash classic is certainly not for everyone, but it’s an undeniably funny and warped cult comedy.
5. After Hours- Martin Scorsese may be best known for his gangster/crime films, but this ultra weird cult comedy is one of his finest.
6. Army Of Shadows- Jean-Pierre Melville’s intense WWII spy film masterpiece.
7. Make Way For Tomorrow- Leo McCarey’s heartbreaking story of an elderly couple is the definition of a tear jerker.
8. The Player- Robert Altman’s star-studded mystery-comedy about Hollywood is a must see.
9. Being John Malkovich- You can’t go wrong with Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman’s mind bending and genre bending original story.
10. Seven Samurai- If you’ve never seen an Akira Kurosawa film, this influential and often imitated epic is the best starting place.
