10 Random Recommendations Part 42
With the slow down of summer entertainment in full effect, it felt like a good time to bust out a new random recommendations list for those seeking something to watch or play.
1. Jack White- No Name- Jack White’s surprise album is a rockin’ return to form and arguably his best solo album to date.
2. Thelma- A charming and underseen indie about an elderly grandma embarking on an adventure to seek out the person or persons responsible for scamming her.
3. Receiver- A worthy follow-up to “Quarterback” that is well worth seeing for George Kittle alone.
4. The Nun’s Story Blu-ray- Every once and awhile I will review a movie that completely takes me by surprise. This is one of those movies. Audrey Hepburn is incredible in what can be described as a psychological journey into a woman adjusting to life as a nun.
5. Still Wakes The Deep- A deeply creepy Lovecraftian video game set on board a collapsing oil rig. Available on Xbox Series S/X, PS5, and Windows.
6. Trust- I’ve been in an indie film mode as of late and I revisited Hal Hartley’s quirky “Trust.” I’ve long been a fan of the deeply underrated filmmaker and this is quite possibly his best film.
7. Rocky: Ultimate Knockout Collection 4K- At long last the entire Rocky saga is now available on 4K with superb new cuts of “Rocky 4” and “Rocky Balboa.”
8. The People’s Joker- An audacious and clever film that is part parody and part personal story about a trans woman.
9. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Story Campaign- Upon release, MW3’s campaign was blasted, but I have absolutely no idea why. It’s an intense, challenging, and gripping gaming experience especially with missions like “Flashpoint” and “Gora Dam.” Note: This is now available on Xbox Game Pass.
10. Phish- Evolve- The jam band’s new album is among their best in the past 20 years with standout tracks like “Pillow Jets” and “Oblivion.”
