What’s Being Released In August 2024?
As the summer entertainment season winds down, August surprisingly has some big offerings in store (especially on TV). Below I have spotlighted 10 of the biggest releases to come.
1. Star Wars Outlaws- One of the year’s most anticipated video games is almost here. Will it live up to expectations? Aug. 30 on Xbox Series S/X, Playstation 5, and Microsoft Windows.
2. Borderlands- Although the trailers look very “Guardians of the Galaxy,” I’m curious to see what director Eli Roth does with this video game adaptation. Aug. 9 in theaters
3. D23- Disney’s big convention is sure to have big news on all fronts. Aug. 9-11.
4. Terminator Zero- It’s no secret that the Terminator franchise has been fading fast, but perhaps this new anime series can revive it. Aug. 29 on Netflix.
5. Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 2- Season 1 was uneven at best, but hopefully the writers can right the ship in season 2. Aug. 29 on Amazon Prime Video.
6. Batman: Caped Crusader- How can you not be excited by a new Batman animated series from creators Matt Reeves, Bruce Timm and J.J. Abrams? Aug. 1 on Amazon Prime Video.
7. Tales Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles- Another new animated series! This one is set in the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” universe. Aug. 9 on Paramount+.
8. Smashing Pumpkins: Aghori Mhori Mei- The alt rockers announced a surprise new album for Aug. 2.
9. Alien: Romulus- Much like Terminator, the Alien franchise has been in a downward spiral for a long time now. If the trailers are any indication, this could be the movie to turn things around. Aug. 16 in theaters
10. Watchmen: Chapter 1- I know what you’re thinking, another adaptation of “Watchmen?” I feel you, but this 2 part animated feature adaptation has one thing going for it- writer J. Michael Straczynski. I have faith he can pull it off. Aug. 27 on home video.
