Ranking The Chucky Series

With the second half of “Chucky” season 3 starting tonight, it’s only fitting that today’s list is devoted to the ever evolving Chucky franchise (the films, the reboot, and the TV series).
1. Bride Of Chucky- The fourth entry is a prime example of how to reinvent a franchise in a fresh and exciting way. Chucky went from horror to a clever horror-comedy without missing a step.
2. Child’s Play- The original film still stands as one of the best killer doll movies ever made.
3. Chucky- It’s a miracle that this show exists. This is truly the gold standard of turning a horror film franchise into a TV series. Don Mancini is able to explore so many deep cut ongoing plot threads from his film series along with wild new ideas (Chucky in the White House!).
4. Child’s Play 2- A worthy follow-up to the original with a killer final act in a toy factory.
5. Curse Of Chucky- After the comedic “Seed Of Chucky,” the series went back to its horror roots with the sixth installment.
6. Child’s Play 3- Chucky in a military academy seems like an idea out of left field, but it’s a welcome departure from the first 2 films.
7. Child’s Play (2019)- Like many I groaned when this reboot was announced, but it turned out to be a rather entertaining modernized take. The stellar cast featuring Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry and Mark Hamill as Chucky doesn’t hurt either.
8. Seed Of Chucky- Mancini deserves credit for taking a big swing with this sequel about gender, family, parenthood, and Hollywood, but it’s too messy for its own good.
9. Cult Of Chucky- A bleak and mean-spirited sequel. Luckily, story elements were redeemed by the “Chucky” series.
